The Tavern at Spring Hill is now open in Mansfield
Independent, full-service restaurant complements inn accommodations
Residents and visitors in the Spring Hill village of Mansfield, Connecticut have a new dining option:
The Tavern at Spring Hill! Mansfield resident Bharat Neupane brings fifteen years of experience to his new, full-service restaurant. He previously was the chef/owner of Kathmandu Kitchen & Bar in Downtown Storrs (CT) and the kitchen manager of CabbyShack Restaurant and Pub in Plymouth (MA). Mr. Neupane also was employed as a chef at UConn Dining Services for seven years and as a chef in Iraq for the US military for two years.
The Tavern at Spring Hill will serve lunch and dinner with a menu full of New England-inspired dishes and original takes on fan favorites. Enjoy your meal in the charming c. 1734 building or, when weather permits, outdoors on the expansive patio.
The restaurant’s opening marks the return of fine dining to the Spring Hill neighborhood. The building has served as a welcoming waypoint for travelers since at least 1951, when the home was purchased by Edith McComb and dubbed “Altnaveigh.” Many local residents and families of University of Connecticut students have fond memories of markin important occasions at the former Altnaveigh restaurant and inn. While the inn continued to welcome visitors, the restaurant paused operation for several years. Mr. Neupane, who purchased the building in 2021, hopes to revive the tradition of the historic home as a dining destination with the opening of his new restaurant.
“With years of experience under my belt, I’m excited to launch The Tavern at Spring Hill,” said Mr. Neupane. “My
biggest hope is to create amazing experiences and opportunities for everyone who walks through our doors. And as time goes by, I can’t wait to introduce the community with outdoor seating, catering, and events that anyone might want to host here. I cannot wait to bring a landmark, historic building back to life for the community.”
The Tavern at Spring Hill is located at 957 Storrs Road, Storrs, CT 06268. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Monday from 11:30 AM until 9:00 PM (closed Tuesday). For more information, visit springhillinnstorrs.com. For reservations, please call 860.477.5909.
