Connecticut Landmarks’ Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden invites visitors to view winning submissions from the 2023-2024 Trees for Suffield Photo Contest that will be on display in the Visitor’s Center from May 4–October 13, 2024.
The Suffield Tree Committee, the Town of Suffield, and the Suffield Garden Club worked together to establish the Trees for Suffield Initiative to provide residents a tree canopy for generations to come. In collaboration with Suffield organizations and residents, events will be held throughout the year to raise awareness of the many benefits trees provide. Programs include educational and creative writing workshops, tree plantings, and other special events. More information about the Trees for Suffield Initiative can be found here.
Open to residents and non-residents, the Trees for Suffield photo contest invited non-professional photographers to submit photos of Suffield trees to five categories: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, plus a fifth for composite photos of the same tree in all four seasons.
An opening reception for the exhibition at the Phelps-Hatheway Visitor’s Center to celebrate this vital initiative for Suffield’s present and future tree canopy will take place on Friday, May 3 from 5 pm–7 pm. This free reception is open to Connecticut Landmarks members and invited guests only.
Following the reception, visitors can view the exhibition on Phelps-Hatheway’s open tour days from June through October on the 2nd Sunday of the month or by scheduling a tour via advance reservation. Advance registration for tours on open tour days is appreciated, but walk-ups are welcome as space permits. The exhibition can also be viewed during the museum’s opening day on Saturday, May 4 from 1 pm–4 pm.
Registration is not required to view the exhibition on opening day, but regular admission fees apply for
guided museum tours, which can be purchased here.
