Cappella Cantorum’s Spring Concert
Cappella Cantorum presents its Spring Concert at First Church of Christ in Old Saybrook (366 Main Street, Old Saybrook) on Sunday, April 21, 3:00 p.m., featuring The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins, “dedicated to the memory of all those who lost their lives during armed conflict, in particular innocent civilians.” The Masterworks Chorus and Cappella Orchestra will be conducted by Simon Holt, and as a special feature, the chorus will be joined by Select Singers, a youth choir from Lyme-Old Lyme High School, under Choral Director Kristine Pekar.
The Peacemakers includes words of peace from iconic, world-changing figures such as Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, along with other inspirational quotations of Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Anne Frank and the Dalai Lama. Also featured are religious texts from the Bible, the Qur’an, St Francis of Assisi and Bahá’u’lláh, and the poetry of Shelley, Malory, Terry Waite and Carol Barratt. One line from the Persian mystic poet Rumi sums up the ethos of the work: ‘All religions, all singing one song: Peace be with you’.
Simon Holt is the Music Director of Cappella Cantorum and the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, as well as the Founder and Artistic Director of Salt Marsh Opera. Soprano Lisa Williamson will be the featured soloist for The Peacemakers.
Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door ($15 for students 18 & under; children under 6 attend free with an adult ticket purchase). They can be purchased on the website, cappellacantorum.org, by calling 860-532-0454, or from any chorus member.
