Join Mystic Seaport Museum for What Lurks Beneath and discover the mysteries of the ocean this Halloween
The event is scheduled for the last two weekends in October
Mystic Seaport Museum invites you to explore the unknown and discover “what lurks beneath.” This event takes visitors on an adventure to experience the mysteries of the ocean, encountering sea monsters like never before.
From Kraken-inspired tentacles climbing the rigging of the Charles W. Morgan, to spooky guided tours that recount the tales of sailors who confronted creatures of the deep, there’s something for everyone. Visitors can also view fascinating and creepy marine specimens from the Museum’s collection in our newest exhibition Spineless: A Glass Menagerie of Blaschka Marine Invertebrates.
The event features hands-on activities for the whole family. Create your own sea monster or mermaid craft, take home a card with historic sea monster illustrations, and engage the imagination at the children’s mini ship playscape, decked out with ghostly lighting.
And what’s a Halloween event without themed food and beverages? Schaefer’s Spouter Tavern will be serving up Halloween-themed treats as you investigate the unknown and decide for yourself whether you believe in monsters of the deep.
“We can’t wait to share What Lurks Beneath with the public and provide this unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a setting like none other. Giant Kraken-like tentacles overtaking the Morgan with a backdrop of Mystic River at night will inspire the greatest spooky photos, and we can’t wait to see them!” says Peter Armstrong, Museum President.
The event will take place on the evenings October 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
