Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats to bring folk, Americana, and vintage rhythm & blues to Seaside Park on Saturday
Based in Denver, Colorado, Nathaniel Rateliff is an American singer and songwriter known for his folk, Americana, and vintage rhythm & blues style. He formed a backing band called the Night Sweats for his R&B side project in 2013. Over the years, he has released three solo albums, two solo EPs, and one album as Nathaniel Rateliff & the Wheel.
In 2013, Nathaniel Rateliff began incorporating a more energetic and soulful style into his music, collaborating with Joseph Pope III and others for performances in Denver and Boulder. Their self-titled album, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, was announced on June 24, 2015, with the hit single “S.O.B.” The Night Sweats includes Joseph Pope III, Mark Shusterman, and Patrick Meese, along with Luke Mossman, Wesley Watkins, and Andy Wild. Despite creating the album as a last resort before quitting music, it went viral and became a huge success.
In November 2016, Rateliff released the 8-track EP A Little More From… and in March 2018, he released a new album with the Night Sweats called Tearing at the Seams. After recording 18 songs, Rateliff felt the need to go back to the studio and produce seven to eight more songs with the rhythm and horns sections. The album’s lead single is “You Worry Me,” and it was produced by Richard Swift. The band gathered in Rodeo, New Mexico, to write and record for the album, which is available in standard and deluxe editions with 12 and 14 tracks, respectively.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have released a new five-track EP called “What If I” on Stax. This EP is the band’s first project since their highly acclaimed 2021 album, “The Future”.
The EP consists of previously unreleased songs that were recorded during “The Future” sessions, along with a new track called “Buy My Round”. All of the songs on this record were produced by Bradley Cook (known for his work with Bon Iver, Kevin Morby, and The War on Drugs) as well as R.M.B., the production trio of Rateliff, Patrick Meese, and James Barone (from Beach House). Additionally, the song “Slow Pace of Time” features Charlie Gabriel, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band leader and clarinetist.
