GIVĒON has always used his raw, evocative songwriting to mine a confusing world for answers, and that approach has connected to the tune of over 2 billion global streams and nearly 1 billion YouTube views thus far. But, lately, he’s been fixed on a problem he can’t solve. As he puts it, “Sometimes the truth is rewarded, and sometimes it’s frowned upon. Do we want truth, or a little deception to make us feel better?” This sort of tension is at the heart of GIVĒON’s work. 2022’s “Lie Again” shows off the emotional curiosity and deep warmth of his songs over cinematic R&B arrangements. This

sensitivity and love for storytelling traces back to his upbringing in Long Beach, CA, where his mother shielded him and his brothers from the area’s gang culture, and encouraged him to sing. After years of hustle, he bonded with producer Sevn Thomas (Drake, Rihanna) in 2019 and placed “Chicago Freestyle” on Drake’s 2020 mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes. GIVĒON’s March 2020 debut EP Take Time held his first top 40 Hot 100 hit, “Heartbreak Anniversary,” and by March 2021, his When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time compilation debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. (It’s since gone Platinum, and highlight “All to Me” went Gold—his 10th RIAA certification). The seven-time Grammy nominee has been hard at work on a follow-up, figuring out how to best share himself with all eyes on him. If the project is full of songs as emotional and real as “Lie Again”—and it surely will be—the wait will be worth it.

Fana Hues

“Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others.” It’s an instruction we’re all familiar with when it comes to flying, but for LA singer-songwriter Fana Hues, the air travel rule poetically mirrors the acts of self care that have led to her forthcoming collection, flora + fana. On the cover, Fana rests inside a glass globe filled with lush plants and flowers, enclosed within her own world, tending to her own garden. While it may seem an obvious choice for a record titled to nod to flowers and reclaim the proper Ethiopian pronunciation of her name, it’s also a meaningful and apt visual for an artist set on expressing the period of growth she currently finds herself in. “I’ve been learning that in order to be of service in any type of way, I need to be sound, I need to be solid,” she explains. Only in caring for ourselves can we sustain the work of caring for others.

Saleka

Saleka is a classically trained, Indian American musician, who began playing piano at the age of four. As the daughter of M. Night and Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan, Saleka was raised on an eclectic combination of music. Rather than attending a traditional conservatory, Saleka made a transformative decision and enrolled at Brown University to begin her journey as an R&B singer-songwriter and study both Literary Arts and Music. Saleka has performed at iconic venues across the United States, opening for both R&B legends and up-and-coming artists such as Boyz II Men, Summer Walker, Baby Rose and K. Michelle. In addition to music, Saleka uses her powerful voice to raise awareness for social justice reform, youth education and women’s rights. Saleka currently resides with her family in Philadelphia.
