Trey Anastasio Band, also known as TAB, is an American rock group led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Trey Anastasio from Phish. Since 1998, the band has gone through various transformations. They have had different members and previously went by the names Eight Foot Fluorescent Tubes and 70 Volt Parade. Currently, the band consists of Anastasio (vocals, guitar), Russ Lawton (drums), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards), Cyro Baptista (percussion), Dezron Douglas (bass), Natalie Cressman (trombone, vocals), and Jennifer Hartswick (trumpet, vocals). Anastasio and Lawton are the only original members remaining from the band’s formation in 1998. Musicians from TAB have also accompanied Anastasio on several of his solo studio albums.

Trey Anastasio, a composer, guitarist, and vocalist, has had a diverse career spanning three decades. He has received recognition for his contributions to rock, classical, and theatrical music. Anastasio is also a founding member of Phish, a highly successful and innovative rock band. In 2017, Phish made history with a 13-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York, known as The Baker’s Dozen. Currently, Phish has performed at the renowned arena a total of 64 times.

Anastasio is a highly acclaimed musician who has been nominated for GRAMMY® awards for his work with Phish and as a solo artist. He has collaborated with many notable musicians including Dave Matthews, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Toots and the Maytals, B.B. King, The Roots, and Oysterhead, which includes Les Claypool (Primus) and Stewart Copeland (The Police). Anastasio also co-wrote the music for the Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody, which received a Tony nomination for “Best Original Score” in 2013. In 2015, he joined the remaining members of the Grateful Dead for five stadium shows, marking the band’s 50th anniversary and their final shows.

He has had the opportunity to perform his own compositions with many symphonies. His Carnegie Hall performance with the New York Philharmonic was described by The New York Times as “a rare classical-rock hybrid that could please fans of both genres.” In 2014, he introduced a new piece for guitar and orchestra called Petrichor, which was performed during a West Coast orchestral tour. It ended with a performance at the Hollywood Bowl, marking his second appearance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Anastasio’s 14th solo album, Ghosts of the Forest, was released in April 2019 and was praised by Rolling Stone for its “psychedelic guitar solos, imaginative arrangements, and deeply personal lyrics.” A documentary about Trey’s creative process, titled Between Me and My Mind, was premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and played to a sold-out audience during a limited theatrical run this past summer.

Recently, Phish held two benefit concerts at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, NY. The concerts raised over $3.5 million for flood recovery efforts in Vermont and Upstate New York. Prior to the shows, Page McConnell and Phish performed special acoustic sets. The Saturday, August 26 performance also featured a surprise appearance by guitarist Derek Trucks, who joined Phish on stage.

The concerts took place on August 25th and 26th and were streamed for free on LivePhish.com and Phish’s YouTube channel. Fans from all over the world had the chance to contribute directly to The WaterWheel Foundation’s 2023 Flood Recovery Fund. All proceeds from ticket sales, merchandise, and personal donations went towards the fund. Those who wish to continue supporting WaterWheel can donate through PayPal by click here.
