1,400 runners from 22 states coming to tomorrow’s Branford Thanksgiving 5K & Kids Run
The annual Branford Thanksgiving 5K returns on Thanksgiving morning! 1,400 runners from 22 states are coming to tomorrow’s race at Branford’s Walsh Elementary School. The event include a 5K Run & Walk and ½ Mile Kids Fun Run. The flat 5K begins and finishes at Walsh Intermediate School. The course is flat & fast traveling through Branford’s scenic Route 146 and Pine Orchard Golf Course. Proceeds from the event benefit the Rotary Club of Branford, BC2 Community Complex, and the Soundview Family YMCA.
The event includes a discounted student rate for children under 18 years of age and offers commemorative technical running shirts. Early packet pick-up will be available at Marathon Sports in Branford on November 21st (2 – 6PM) and 22nd (10 – 6PM). On-site registration (if available) and race day packet pick-up will be held in the spacious gym inside Walsh Intermediate School at 7:30AM on Thursday morning. The Kids Race kicks off at 9 a.m. with the 5K following at 9:10 a.m.
After the race, participants can enjoy music, refreshments, clam chowder and a wide variety of food to snack on.
BC2 Community Complex was formed to honor Ben Callahan, a standout three-sport athlete, musician, scholar, and humanitarian who passed away in a drowning accident. Ben’s infectious smile, boldness, compassion, and character brought together thousands of people in the wake of his death including family, friends, teammates, coaches, bandmates, opponents on the field, and the countless lives who were impacted while he lived. BC2’s purpose is to serve children and families in and around the community by building a 125,000 square foot indoor/outdoor sports and fitness facility.
The Branford Rotary Club is a group of professionals and community leaders who volunteer their time and effort to improve life in Branford, across the shoreline, and around the world. Proceeds from this event supports Branford Rotary’s annual Nelson Bernabucci Veteran’s Luncheon, Branford Rotary’s Senior Holiday Dinner, The Branford Food Pantry, Orchard House Adult Medical Day Center, and Branford Counseling and Community Services.
